Ex-MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe Arrested in US

Ghana’s former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) CEO, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, has been arrested and detained in the United States. According to Ghana’s Ambassador to the US, Victor Smith, Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested by US Marshals on January 6, 2026, and is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre.

The arrest follows an extradition request sent to US authorities in July 2024. Tamakloe-Attionu was sentenced to 10 years in prison in April 2024 for embezzling GH¢3.19 million during her tenure at MASLOC and causing a deliberate financial loss of GH¢90 million to the state.

According to a statement issued by Ambassador Victor Smith, Tamakloe-Attionu is awaiting her day in court. The Ghanaian government had previously granted her permission to travel to the US for medical treatment in 2021, but she failed to return.

Tamakloe-Attionu’s case has sparked widespread interest in Ghana, with many calling for accountability for public officials accused of corruption. The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) investigated fraudulent disbursements of MASLOC funds involving Tamakloe-Attionu and her former Chief Operating Officer, Daniel Axim.

Axim was sentenced to five years in prison alongside Tamakloe-Attionu. The duo was found guilty on 78 counts relating to causing financial loss to the state, theft, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and contravening public procurement laws.

The Ghanaian government has expressed commitment to extraditing Tamakloe-Attionu to serve her prison sentence. The outcome of the extradition process is awaited.
