Cedi Holds Firm Against Major Trading Currencies

The Ghana cedi maintained relative stability against the US dollar, British pound and euro in the latest interbank exchange rates released by the Bank of Ghana.
The Ghana cedi continued to demonstrate relative stability against the world’s major trading currencies, with the Bank of Ghana’s latest daily interbank exchange rates showing only marginal movements in the values of the US dollar, British pound sterling and euro. According to the central bank’s exchange rate bulletin issued on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the US dollar is trading at an average interbank buying rate of GH¢11.6554 and a selling rate of GH¢11.6670. The British pound sterling remains the strongest among the three major currencies quoted, with banks buying at GH¢15.5098 and selling at GH¢15.5265. Meanwhile, the euro is trading at an average buying rate of GH¢13.2903, while the selling rate stands at GH¢13.3035.
The Bank of Ghana noted that the published figures represent the average interbank exchange rates used by commercial banks for transactions at the close of business on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The rates serve as benchmark values for the banking sector and may differ from those offered by individual banks and foreign exchange bureaus, depending on market conditions and institutional pricing policies.
The latest figures suggest continued stability in Ghana’s foreign exchange market, with only a narrow spread between buying and selling rates across the three major international currencies. Such stability is often viewed as a positive signal for businesses engaged in international trade, investors, importers and exporters who rely on predictable exchange rates for planning and transactions.
The daily publication of interbank exchange rates forms part of the Bank of Ghana’s efforts to promote transparency in the foreign exchange market while providing financial institutions, businesses and the public with a reliable benchmark for currency transactions.
Market participants are expected to continue monitoring exchange rate movements closely, as developments in global financial markets, foreign exchange inflows, trade activities and domestic economic conditions remain key factors influencing the performance of the Ghana cedi.
