Acheampong Unleashes on NDC’s Economic Track Record

Ghana’s ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has dismissed the opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) economic performance as “cosmetics”, asserting that Ghanaians will soon feel the real impact of the economy.

According to Joy News, Acheampong made this statement while addressing campaign coordinators, emphasizing his bold leadership and vision for Ghana’s future. He highlighted his achievements in the private sector and government, citing the construction of an airport in Kwahu and the cancellation of the cocoa syndication facility as examples of his transformative leadership.

Acheampong’s comments come amid a heated debate on the economy, with the NDC claiming superior economic management. Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko countered that the NDC’s economic indicators, such as reduced inflation and increased reserves, demonstrate their competence ¹.

However, Acheampong insists that the NPP’s approach will bring tangible benefits to Ghanaians, saying, “When I talk about bold leadership, I am not speaking in abstract terms. I am speaking from experience” ².

The economic landscape shows signs of improvement, with inflation easing to 12.1% in July and GDP growth accelerating to 5.3% in Q1 2025. The Ghana Cedi has also strengthened, and international reserves have risen to $11.12 billion ³.

As Ghana approaches the 2026 elections, Acheampong’s bold claims set the stage for a lively debate on economic management.
