Two Suspected Robbers Shot Dead in Ashanti Region

Two suspected armed robbers were killed in a shootout with police near Manso Antoakrom in the Ashanti Region on December 31, 2025. The police, acting on intelligence, had launched an operation to apprehend a gang of robbers who were planning to attack road users along the Antoakrom-Manso Nkwanta road.

 

When police officers moved in, the suspects opened fire, attempting to escape. The police returned fire, killing two of the suspects, while two others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds. The injured suspects were taken to the Bekwai Government Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

 

The police recovered an AK-47 rifle with four rounds of ammunition, a pump-action gun with four BB cartridges, four spent cartridges, a bag containing sixteen live cartridges, and a black Toyota Voxy vehicle with registration number AS 6412-25.

 

The deceased suspects were identified as Mohammed Umaru, 28, and Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Yaw, 26. They confessed to several robberies, including the Mpohor gold robbery involving gold valued at about 3.2 million dollars, the Nyinahini highway robbery, and the Sefwi cocoa shed robbery.

 

The police are continuing investigations and pursuing intelligence to arrest the remaining suspects and other accomplices connected to the gang’s criminal activities.
