Dormaahene Stands Firm Against NDC Despite Praising Mahama’s Governance

The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, has declared he will never support the National Democratic Congress (NDC) till he dies, despite being a former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). In a viral video, the traditional leader and Court of Appeal judge emphasized his stance, stating, “I will never support the NDC. I am not affiliated with the NDC and I will not support them till I die”

Dormaahene’s statement comes as he praised President John Dramani Mahama’s governance, describing him as managing the country’s affairs effectively. He noted that anyone claiming the president isn’t performing well is “a liar”. This isn’t the first time Dormaahene has spoken highly of Mahama’s leadership, citing economic stability and policy actions like clearing longstanding arrears to contractors.

The traditional leader highlighted Ghana’s cedi-dollar exchange rate, currently at GH¢11.49, as a sign of relative stability in the foreign exchange market since Mahama assumed office. He also commended Mahama’s directive to release GH¢1 billion to contractors owed since 2017, calling it a move to restore confidence in government commitments.

Dormaahene’s comments have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some questioning why he’s criticizing the NDC despite praising Mahama. Others have defended him, saying he spoke as a traditional leader seeking unity and peace. As President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Dormaahene has been vocal on national issues, recently urging Mahama to investigate the National Cathedral project.

The Dormaahene’s stance showcases the complexities of Ghanaian politics, where personal beliefs and traditional roles often intersect with party affiliations. His comments reflect the nuanced discussions happening in Ghana’s political landscape.
