Agbodza Highlights Progress on Big Push Initiative

Ghana’s Roads Minister, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced that the government has awarded $5 billion worth of projects under the Big Push Initiative without borrowing. This significant achievement demonstrates the government’s commitment to reviving the road construction sector and clearing long-standing arrears.
Speaking on the progress, Agbodza emphasized that the payment of GH¢5 billion to road contractors is the largest single settlement made to contractors by any government in recent history. This was achieved through a rigorous validation exercise to verify legitimate claims and ensure accountability.
The Big Push Initiative aims to transform Ghana’s infrastructure, drive economic growth, and create jobs. The government has awarded new road projects worth over GH¢70 billion, with ongoing works on previously stalled projects progressing without cancellations.
Agbodza reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing Ghanaian contractors and promoting local capacity building. The initiative is expected to boost agriculture, industry, and trade, with a focus on connecting regional capitals, linking districts, and improving roads in food-producing areas.
