Teacher Trainees Association Demands Timelines

The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) is urging the Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, to provide clear timelines for recruiting the backlog of trained teachers before January 8. The association is pushing for transparency in the recruitment process, particularly for the 2022 backlog and 2023 batch of teacher trainees.

TTAG’s General Secretary, Victor Atsu Anyidoho, and President, Nanija Divine, emphasized the need for the government to address the prolonged silence surrounding graduate teacher recruitment. Many newly posted teachers have not received salaries for over ten months, causing financial strain.

The Education Minister has announced plans to recruit 6,100 additional teachers, including the 2023 cohort. The government has assured that this group is accounted for under the newly approved recruitment batch .

TTAG is calling for three key actions from the government: transparent recruitment and posting updates, settlement of salary arrears, and clear timelines for processes. The association warns that if these issues remain unresolved, it will consider other legitimate actions to defend teacher trainees’ welfare and dignity.

The outcome of these negotiations will directly impact classroom teaching across Ghana, making it a critical issue for the country’s education sector.
