NPP Warns National Security to Stay Away

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has designated the Ghana Police Service as the sole security agency responsible for its presidential primary, warning National Security operatives and other unauthorised bodies to stay away from the process. This directive, issued by the party’s Presidential Elections Committee, aims to ensure a peaceful and credible election process.

According to the NPP, the presence of any non-uniformed, plain-clothed, or unauthorised security personnel at voting centres, collation points, or related activities will not be tolerated. The party has received information that some elements within National Security may be planning to deploy unauthorised operatives, which it considers a deliberate and unlawful intrusion into its internal democratic processes.

The NPP has expressed confidence in the Ghana Police Service, praising its professionalism and capacity to manage the security needs of the exercise. “We expect the Ghana Police Service to enforce this directive strictly and without compromise,” the statement said, urging the police to ensure that only duly authorised and identifiable officers are deployed.

Henry Nana Boakye, National Organizer of the NPP, signed the statement, warning that any unauthorised presence will be challenged and resisted within the bounds of the law. The party is preparing to elect a flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections, with several aspirants vying for the position.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the NPP of its readiness to ensure a smooth conduct of the election process. Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno has warned persons who may attempt to disrupt the process, stating that the police will ensure full compliance with the operational guidelines.

The NPP presidential primary is expected to be keenly contested, making security a critical concern. The party’s decision is aimed at safeguarding the integrity of its internal democratic process and preventing actions that could undermine the credibility of the election.
