400,000 Russians Killed, Wounded for 0.8 Percent of Ukraine in 2025

Ukraine’s General Staff estimates that Russia has suffered staggering losses, with over 400,000 soldiers killed or wounded, in exchange for capturing just 0.8% of Ukraine’s territory. The grim tally underscores the intense battles unfolding in the region.
Russian President Vladimir Putin appears determined to avoid peace talks, despite the significant human toll. Ukrainian commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskii reported that Russia’s gains came at the cost of nearly 420,000 dead and wounded soldiers.
The conflict has seen Russia occupy 6,640 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory and seize 334 settlements in 2025. However, Ukraine’s General Staff disputes Russia’s claims, estimating total Russian casualties at over 1.2 million, including almost 11,500 tanks and 24,000 armored fighting vehicles.
Meanwhile, Russia has accused Ukraine of attempting to assassinate Putin at his Valdai residence, a claim Ukraine denies as a “Kremlin fake”. The alleged attack comes amid heightened tensions, with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy meeting US President Donald Trump to discuss security guarantees.
As the war rages on, Ukraine’s allies are working towards a potential peace agreement. Polish Premier Donald Tusk expressed optimism, stating “peace is on the horizon” following Trump’s promise to participate in Ukraine’s security.
