Cedi Strengthens to ₵10.6 per Dollar as Year-End Approaches

The Ghanaian cedi has recorded a significant appreciation against the US dollar, trading at ₵10.6 per dollar as of December 30, 2025. This marks one of the cedi’s strongest performances in recent weeks, reflecting increased stability and renewed confidence in the local currency.

According to data from the Bank of Ghana, the cedi was trading at ₵10.65 to the US dollar on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, with just two days remaining in the year. This follows a sharp gain from ₵11.10 to the dollar on Monday, December 29, 2025.

The cedi’s firming position is expected to moderate the cost of imported goods, including food, clothing, electronics, and household items, which typically experience heightened demand during the Christmas and New Year festivities. The stronger cedi also provides some relief on fuel prices, as imported petroleum products are priced in dollars.

On the interbank market, the cedi is buying at ₵10.64 and selling at ₵10.65 per dollar. At forex bureaus, the dollar is being bought at ₵12.10 and sold at ₵12.45.

The cedi’s significant gains during the festive period are expected to support consumer purchasing power and offer much-needed relief to households and businesses as 2025 comes to an end.

The Ghanaian economy has seen notable improvements, and this development is a positive sign for the country’s financial stability.
