Secret Service Foils Assassination Attempt at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

In a daring incident that sent shockwaves across the globe, the US Secret Service thwarted an assassination attempt on President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 25, 2026. The suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old teacher from California, was subdued by Secret Service agents after opening fire near the security checkpoint.
According to CNN, Allen had traveled from California to Washington, D.C. by train, checking into the Washington Hilton hotel a day before the event. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche described the incident as a “massive security success story,” praising the Secret Service for their swift and bravery action.
“The Secret Service did their jobs last night,” Blanche said, adding that preliminary findings suggest Allen was targeting administration officials, including President Trump. The suspect was armed with a shotgun, handgun, and knives, and had written a manifesto outlining his intent to target Trump administration officials.
President Trump, who was attending the dinner with First Lady Melania Trump, praised the Secret Service for their quick response. “Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely,” Trump posted on Truth Social. The incident has raised concerns about security arrangements at high-profile events.
The FBI and Secret Service are investigating the incident, and Allen is expected to face federal charges. The White House Correspondents’ Association has announced that the dinner will be rescheduled within 30 days.
