Renaming Kotoka Airport Misplaced Priority: Worlasi Dogbey

A member of the Ho Central Constituency Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Raphael Worlasi Dogbey, has described the attempt to rename Kotoka International Airport as Accra International Airport as a misplaced priority. He made the statement on Ewenyigba TV’s Morning Show with Tony Mark-Boye.
According to Dogbey, the country’s focus should be on addressing pressing issues rather than mere renaming of infrastructure. “A rebranded airport won’t buy passenger jets or reduce air fares,” he emphasized.
Dogbey defended Ghana’s history of coup-making, citing former President Jerry John Rawlings’ bold steps leading to the establishment of the country’s 4th Republican Constitution. “Those who do not know where they are coming from do not know where they are going,” he said, arguing that the country needs true reawakening rather than symbolic changes.
Dogbey questioned the rationale behind the proposed renaming and described the Hon Minister’s comments as unfortunate. He urged the government to focus on substantive issues affecting the country, rather than getting caught up in symbolic gestures.
The controversy surrounding the airport’s name has sparked debate, with some arguing it is a distraction from more pressing issues. The government’s plans for the airport remain unclear.
The renaming proposal has raised questions about priorities, with many wondering if it addresses Ghana’s developmental challenges.
