Black Stars Lose Coach, Gain Uncertainty

The Ghana Football Association has parted ways with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, effective immediately, following a string of disappointing results, including a 2-1 defeat to Germany and a 5-1 loss to Austria.
According to the Ghana Football Association, the decision was taken after an emergency meeting involving the FA, the Sports Ministry, and the coach. “The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately,” the statement read.
Addo, who was appointed for a second stint in March 2024, had struggled to replicate his earlier success, failing to qualify Ghana for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations despite having key players like Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo in his squad. His overall record stood at eight wins, five draws, and nine defeats in 22 matches.
The Black Stars’ recent form had been a major concern, with four consecutive losses, including defeats to Japan and South Korea. Addo’s dismissal leaves Ghana without a coach just 72 days before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Ghana Football Association has thanked Addo for his service and wished him well in his future endeavors. A new technical direction for the Black Stars will be announced in due course.
