Volta Tyson Brings Glory to Region

 

Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has received Ghanaian professional boxer Saviour Gad, popularly known as “Volta Tyson,” following his recent international title victory. According to #GhanaNews, Gad paid a courtesy call on the Minister to officially present his newly won WABA Supreme Global Super Middleweight title.

 

The boxer, who hails from Ketu South and is based in Agbozume, secured the prestigious belt after a seventh-round technical knockout victory over Eliasu Sulley on April 4, 2026, at Aborigines Beach Hotel in Keta. Hon. James Gunu congratulated Gad for bringing pride and recognition to the Volta Region through his remarkable achievement.

 

Gunu noted that Gad’s success is a clear demonstration of the immense sporting talent within the region. The Minister further encouraged the boxer and his team to remain focused and disciplified as they continue to raise the flag of the region and Ghana high on the international stage.

 

Saviour Gad expressed gratitude to the Minister for the warm reception and pledged to continue working hard to achieve even greater success in his boxing career. The visit highlights the growing prominence of boxing in the Volta Region, with athletes like Gad gaining recognition through platforms such as Aborigines Boxing Promotions and the Ghana Professional Boxing League.

 

Hon. James Gunu assured Gad of the support of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) in promoting sports development and nurturing young talents across the region. The Minister’s recognition of Gad’s achievement underscores the region’s commitment to harnessing local talent.
