8th March, 2026

Artisans, stakeholders, and residents of Ho Central Constituency gathered at the OLA SHS Assembly Hall in Ho yesterday for a crucial town hall meeting, aimed at empowering artisans for skills development, jobs, and national growth. The event, organized by Hon. Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, MP for Ho Central, in partnership with the Artisans Association of Ghana, provided a platform for valuable discussions on opportunities, challenges, and development initiatives affecting the sector.

Hon. Kpotosu emphasized the pivotal role artisans play in Ghana’s economy, stating, “Artisans are more than mere labourers, they are the architects of aspirations, the creators of livelihoods, and the genuine catalysts for grassroots economic progress.” He highlighted the government’s focus on skills development and technical training, enabling Ghanaian craftsmen to compete globally.

According to #HoCentralMP, Kpotosu said government policies are aimed at improving access to affordable financing for small businesses and artisans, driving indigenous industries. Christian Agordah, Regional Director of Ghana TVET Service, Volta Region, echoed Kpotosu’s sentiments, describing artisans as “the guardians of our heritage, the innovators of our crafts, and the powerful drivers of our economy”.

Agordah revealed that Ghana’s artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector contributed $5 billion through gold exports in 2024, accounting for 35% of the country’s total gold output. He stressed the need to formalize the sector, develop artisans’ skills, and build systems for gainful employment, driving national growth.

The meeting concluded with a call to action, urging Ghanaians to patronize local products. Agordah said, “Get Ghana food, cloth, cars to promote our local industries”.
