Kofi Jumah Rushed to Korle Bu ICU, Yet to Meet GH¢55m Bail Conditions

Kofi Jumah Rushed to Korle Bu
Former Chief Executive Officer of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has reportedly been rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital while still in custody, as his legal team struggles to meet bail conditions set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Bail Conditions Unmet
EOCO granted Jumah bail in the sum of GH¢65 million as investigations continue into alleged financial irregularities during his tenure at GIHOC. However, he remains in custody.Paul Yandoh, Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), confirmed the difficulty on Sunday.
“As of last night, he was given a bail bond of GH¢65 million before he can be released from custody. I don’t have such an amount to come and bail him. The lawyers cannot find assets that can amount to that figure, so he is still in custody,” Yandoh said, questioning the scale of the bail. The discrepancy between the GH¢55m cited in initial reports and the GH¢65m figure quoted by party officials remains unclear.
Arrest and Allegations
Jumah was picked up at his Accra residence on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, following a raid on his Kumasi home. The arrest forms part of EOCO’s probe into possible breaches of public financial management protocols during his leadership at the state-owned distillery. This is separate from an earlier case in June 2025, when Jumah was granted GH¢500,000 bail with two sureties over allegations of stealing vehicles belonging to GIHOC. The Ghana Police Service confirmed at the time that three vehicles had been retrieved.Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, had previously alleged that Jumah auctioned a $90,000 official vehicle to himself for GH¢40,000 upon leaving office, adding that “He claims he is sick — well, he will take his medication in police custody.”
Political Pushback
The Minority Caucus in Parliament has condemned Jumah’s arrest, describing it as “an act of political persecution” amid what they say are intensified efforts by state agencies under the Mahama administration to scrutinise former officials.
Health Status
Details surrounding Jumah’s reported admission to Korle Bu’s ICU remain limited. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on his condition.EOCO investigations are ongoing.
