A severe rainstorm has hit Ave Dzalele in the Akatsi North District of Ghana’s Volta Region, leaving over 30 people homeless. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded. The District Chief Executive, Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani, led a delegation to sympathize with the victims, including Presiding Member Hon. Patrick Kwame Ahiabu and NDC Constituency Chairman Hon. Dr. Richard Awudza.

According to reports, the community is no stranger to disaster-prone incidents, with similar rainstorms in 2016 and 2015 displacing hundreds. The DCE has advised residents to plant more trees as windbreaks and explore climate-resilient housing to mitigate future disasters. Authorities are working to support affected families, focusing on sustainable solutions and community resilience.

Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani has tasked NADMO to assess damages and provide relief items, pushing for preventive measures to reduce the impact of future disasters. The Akatsi North District Assembly is committed to supporting the community in rebuilding and recovering.

The community’s history of disaster-prone incidents highlights the need for climate action. Initiatives like SIGRA’s climate adaptation projects aim to improve access to clean water and support smallholder farmers, benefiting vulnerable groups.
