Mahama to Make Historic Address at African Court

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Arusha, Tanzania, ahead of the opening of the Judicial Year of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. As the Special Guest of Honour, President Mahama will make history as the first Ghanaian President to address the continental court.
According to the Presidential Press Corps, President Mahama was welcomed at the Kilimanjaro International Airport by Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kom, and other officials. The opening ceremony will also mark the launch of the 20th anniversary of the court on the theme “20 Years of Service in Protecting Human and Peoples’ Rights in Africa”.
The President’s schedule includes a meeting with President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania on Monday morning, followed by his keynote address at 9:15 am (Ghana Time). President Mahama is accompanied by Legal Counsel Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew and Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari.
The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights is a key institution for promoting human rights and justice in Africa. President Mahama’s address is expected to highlight Ghana’s commitment to the court’s mission.
