*Trump’s Peace Push: Global Leaders Gather in Washington

US President Donald Trump is hosting the inaugural meeting of his Board of Peace in Washington, bringing together representatives from member nations to discuss strategies and funding for Gaza’s reconstruction. According to Organic News, the meeting aims to announce a comprehensive plan for rebuilding the war-torn territory.

The Board of Peace, unveiled at the World Economic Forum in Davos, has sparked controversy, with critics labeling it an “imperial agenda” rivaling the United Nations. Despite this, several countries have joined, including Hungary, Bulgaria, Kosovo, and Albania, while others like France, Germany, and the UK have declined invitations.

Middle Eastern nations, including Israel, UAE, Morocco, Bahrain, and Egypt, are participating, with some viewing it as an opportunity to strengthen ties with the US. However, European countries are divided, with the EU sending an observer to the meeting.

According to Al Jazeera, Tahani Mustafa, a visiting fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, noted that Western allies are cautious due to concerns about the board’s charter, while Global South countries are taking a more pragmatic approach.

The meeting’s agenda includes a $5 billion funding announcement for Gaza’s humanitarian and reconstruction efforts, as well as discussions on a proposed International Stabilization Force to police the territory.

The Board of Peace’s ambitious vision for Gaza’s reconstruction is estimated to cost $70 billion, a monumental task that has sparked debate among world leaders.
