Bawumia Urges Ghanaians to Embrace Busia’s Legacy

The former vice president and flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on Ghanaians, particularly the youth and political leaders, to draw inspiration from the life and enduring legacy of the late Prime Minister, Professor Kofi Abrefa Busia.
Speaking as the chairperson of the commemorative service of the 113th anniversary of Prof. Busia’s birth by Lighthouse chapel at Wenchi in the Bono Region, Dr. Bawumia described the former Prime Minister as a visionary statesman whose unwavering commitment to patriotism, integrity and selfless service continues to inspire generations of Ghanaians.
He said Prof. Busia’s principles of honesty, humility and dedicated public service remain relevant in shaping the country’s future, stressing that Ghana’s development depends on leaders who place the national interest above personal and partisan considerations.
Dr. Bawumia again urged political leaders to emulate Prof. Busia’s leadership style by serving with integrity, accountability and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of the people.
The former vice president also encouraged the youth to study and emulate the life of the late Prime Minister and embrace values such as hard work, discipline, patriotism and responsible citizenship, noting that these qualities are essential for national progress.
According to him, Prof. Busia’s contributions to Ghana’s democratic development and governance have left an enduring legacy that transcends political affiliations and continues to offer valuable lessons for nation-building.
Dr. Bawumia called on all Ghanaians to honour Prof. Busia’s memory not only through commemorative activities but also by living out the ideals of patriotism, sacrifice and dedicated service that defined his life.
He said preserving and promoting those values would help strengthen national unity, deepen democracy and drive sustainable development for future generations.
However, the practicality of these admonishments remains the bridge between the theory and the reality of the Country especially in the public sector and the political spectrum. The unavoidable question remains whether or not these can be actualized.
