Wontumi’s Court Battles Continue Amidst Delays

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, left the Accra High Court yesterday amidst ongoing proceedings in two high-profile cases, including the State vs. Chairman Wontumi linked to the Numre Forest reserve and the EXIM Bank case. According to #GhanaNews, the court adjourned proceedings in both matters, leaving many wondering what the future holds for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The EXIM Bank case revolves around allegations of fraud and money laundering, with Wontumi denying all charges. He is accused of obtaining a GHC19 million facility from the Ghana Export-Import Bank for a farming venture, which prosecutors claim was never undertaken. Wontumi’s lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has maintained that his client is innocent and is cooperating with investigations.

In a related development, Wontumi is also facing charges related to illegal mining activities at Samreboi in the Western Region. The court has granted him bail in the sum of GH¢15 million with three sureties. According to #MyJoyOnline, the prosecution alleges that Wontumi assigned mineral rights without ministerial approval, contravening Ghana’s mining laws.

The cases have sparked intense public interest, with many calling for accountability and transparency. As proceedings continue, Wontumi’s legal team is pushing for an expeditious trial, while the prosecution is seeking to ensure justice is served.

The outcome of these cases is likely to have significant implications for Wontumi’s political career and the NPP.
