US Navy’s ‘Pirate’ Tactics: Trump’s Bold Move in Iran Blockade

In a striking admission, US President Donald Trump likened the US Navy’s enforcement of the Iranian blockade to “pirates,” highlighting the aggressive measures taken to curb Iran’s oil exports. The remarks come as tensions escalate between Washington and Tehran, with the US imposing a naval blockade on Iranian ports in response to Iran’s restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to The Times of India, Trump made the comments while describing the recent seizure of a ship by US forces, emphasizing the profitability of such operations. “We took over the ship, we took over the cargo, we took over the oil. It’s a very profitable business,” Trump said, adding, “We’re like pirates. We’re sort of like pirates but we are not playing games”.
The US blockade, aimed at pressuring Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, has led to concerns over global oil supplies and rising energy costs. Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has condemned the blockade as “intolerable” and an act of aggression, while Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has warned of severe consequences for US actions.
The situation remains fluid, with Trump rejecting Iran’s latest peace proposal and vowing to continue the blockade. The US has also announced sanctions on entities paying tolls to Iran, further straining relations.
As the standoff continues, experts warn of potential escalation and devastating consequences for global trade and energy markets. The fragile ceasefire remains precarious, with both sides dug in their positions.
