
President John Dramani Mahama has returned to Ghana after a productive official visit to France, where he engaged in high-level discussions with President Emmanuel Macron aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. The visit, which included a state welcome ceremony at Les Invalides in Paris, underscores the enduring diplomatic ties between the two countries.
According to the Presidency, Mahama’s talks with Macron focused on boosting cooperation in critical areas such as health, infrastructure, and economic development, signaling a renewed commitment to deepening Ghana-France relations. The two leaders also co-chaired the 2026 One Health Summit, emphasizing their commitment to global health and sustainable development.
Mahama expressed appreciation to France and China for their support in Ghana’s debt restructuring, noting the resilience of the Ghanaian economy and positive indicators emerging from the process. Macron praised Mahama’s leadership at the summit and announced Ghana as the first beneficiary of the newly introduced National Health Compact.
The visit also included a meeting with GĂ©rard Larcher, President of the French Senate, highlighting Ghana’s growing influence in global health policy and France’s continued engagement in Africa. Discussions spanned a wide range of issues, including bilateral trade, regional and global security, development cooperation, food security, artificial intelligence, and maternal health.
The outcomes of the visit are expected to pave the way for stronger partnerships and concrete initiatives across multiple sectors, reflecting Ghana’s growing role on the international stage. As Mahama noted, “Ghana and France stand together on key issues of peace and security”.
