NPP Calls for Accountability, Stop Blaming NPP Over GoldBod Losses
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is urging the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, to be more accountable to Ghanaians following the discovery of losses in an audit report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the books of the gold licensing and purchasing regulator under the management of Sammy Gyamfi.
King-David Norgbey, Organizer of the Ho Central Constituency NPP, stated that the NPP did not originate this controversy but an audit report which IMF relies upon. He said these blaming the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Ho Central Constituency Communication Officer for doing propaganda with the story. King-David added his voice to that of NPP Members of Parliament calling for a bipartisan probe into the matter.
According to King-David Norgbey, the losses were discovered by the IMF in an audit report, and the NPP is simply calling on the CEO of GoldBod to up his game and be accountable to Ghanaians. He finds it appalling that NDC’s Agama is politicizing the losses by justifying them as operating expenditure, stating that Ghanaians voted the NDC into power to manage the economy effectively.
Norgbey added that Ghanaians do not believe Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of GoldBod, is equipped with the acumen to manage the organization, hence the losses. He emphasized that there is no need to compare the current losses to those under the previous government.
The GoldBod losses have sparked controversy, with the IMF reporting a $214 million loss under the Gold for Reserves program. The Bank of Ghana has also incurred significant losses, which Sammy Gyamfi attributes to trading deficits and fees paid to off-takers involved in the program.
