VOLTA REGION’S HOHOE, – In a heartwarming display of appreciation for the tireless efforts of educators, the Hohoe Municipal Assembly hosted a glittering awards ceremony to recognize the outstanding contributions of teachers and workers in the municipality.
The event, held at the Hohoe Municipal Assembly Forecourt, brought together esteemed guests, including the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Prosper Kumi, the Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Hon. Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, Mr.Victor Korku Kovey, the Municipal Director of Education, and Mr.Francis Agbemadi, the Volta Regional Director of Education.
In his keynote address, MCE, Hon. Prosper Kumi emphasized the importance of valuing and appreciating the work of teachers, stating, “We value and appreciate the tireless work of our educators, and by honoring these individuals, we motivate all teachers to continue striving for excellence, knowing that they matter and their efforts are recognized.”
Hon.Kumi also announced that in collaboration with the Member of Parliament, Hon. Tsekpo, the Assembly is putting measures in place to transform six Junior High Schools into smart classrooms, equipped with electronic teaching and learning facilities, as part of efforts to elevate the status of teachers and improve education in the municipality.
He added that, “They’ve identified six smart schools where teaching and learning will be done electronically in all the traditional areas, and work will soon begin to turn those Junior High Schools into smart classrooms.”
He concluded that, “Conducive working environment, professional development, and requisite resources needed will be provided.”
Hon. Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, MP for Hohoe, echoed Hon. Kumi’s statements, emphasizing the critical role teachers play in shaping the future of the children in the municipality. “Education is the greatest equalizer in life,” Tsekpo said, highlighting his own efforts to support education in the municipality.
Hon.Tsekpo outlined several initiatives, including providing mathematical sets for every B.E.C.E candidate, supporting the Ghana Education Service with equipment and logistics, and supplying 500 J.H.S graduates who qualified to enrol in S.H.S with essential items. He also committed GHS 200,000.00 from the MP’s Common Fund to support over 120 tertiary students and facilitated government scholarships for about 55 students.
The overall best teacher of the Hohoe Municipality, Olivia Abra Sallam, expressed her gratitude in an emotional acceptance speech. “This award is a reminder that our works are seen and valued. This award is a victory for us all,” she said, dedicating the award to all learners in the Municipality, the Ghana Education Service, and the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive and Member of Parliament.
The ceremony was a testament to the municipality’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding excellence in teaching, and a reminder of the critical role educators play in shaping the future of Hohoe’s children.
