Doctors of Pope Leo have said no further treatment is necessary following the pontiff’s surgery for lung cancer, according to a Vatican statement released on Thursday 22nd October, 2026. The Vatican said the 69-year-old pontiff is in stable condition and responding well after the procedure.
The Holy See Press Office disclosed that the surgery was performed to remove a localized cancerous lesion detected during routine medical checks. Medical experts who led the operation expressed satisfaction with the outcome, noting that the early detection allowed for complete removal without the need for chemotherapy or radiotherapy at this stage.
