The directive from GES warns all SHS and SHTS heads against imposing illegal charges on students and parents under any guise. The Service says such practices violate government policy on free Senior High School education and burden parents.

Heads who have already collected unauthorised monies have been ordered to refund them immediately to parents and guardians. GES insists that no school is permitted to charge fees outside the approved government guidelines.

The order comes after reports of some SHS and SHTS heads demanding unapproved levies from fresh and continuing students, according to public complaints. Parents have raised concerns about hidden charges despite the free SHS policy.

GES says sanctions will be applied to any head who fails to comply with the directive to stop illegal fees collection and refund parents, as monitoring teams have been deployed to enforce compliance across all Senior High and Technical Schools.
