GES reopens WAEC portal for 2026 school placement
Junior High Schools have until Thursday to complete candidates’ school-choice uploads for the 2026 placement exercise.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has reopened the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) portal to enable Junior High Schools (JHSs) to capture and upload candidates’ school-selection data for the 2026 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) exercise. The portal will be available from Monday, August 24, to Thursday, August 27, 2026, according to a directive issued by the GES on August 24.
The directive, signed by the Director of the Schools and Instructions Division (Secondary), Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, on behalf of the Director-General, was addressed to all Regional Directors of Education for onward communication to schools. GES said headteachers who had not yet completed the uploading of candidates’ school choices on the CSSPS portal for the pre-testing exercise were required to do so by the close of work on Monday, August 24, before proceeding to capture and upload the data on the WAEC portal.
The Service said the activation of the WAEC portal was intended to facilitate the timely completion of the exercise and ensure that the school-selection information of eligible candidates was properly captured. A key feature of the activated portal is that schools with large numbers of candidates can use the same school identification number and password simultaneously on multiple computers. According to the GES, the facility will allow schools to work on the data concurrently, making it easier to complete the capture and upload process within the stipulated period.
The Service has consequently directed Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education, together with Examination Coordinators, to closely supervise and monitor the exercise. They have also been tasked to ensure that data relating to all eligible candidates are duly captured, verified and submitted within the specified deadline. Regional Directors of Education have further been instructed to communicate the directive to all relevant schools and ensure strict compliance across their respective jurisdictions.

The reopening comes as education authorities advance preparations for the 2026 school placement process, with schools being required to ensure that candidates’ choices are accurately captured and submitted for the subsequent placement exercise.
