VP Naana Jane Explains Delay Placing Promoted Teachers Grades

The Vice President explained that recent reforms in the Ghana Education Service removed the old system that linked promotions to administrative vacancies. Previously, teachers had to wait for a headteacher or director position to become vacant before they could be promoted, but the new policy allows more teachers to progress based on merit and years of service.
She assured teachers that government is working with the Ghana Education Service, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the Ministry of Education to clear the arrears and fast-track placement. The Vice President, herself a former educationist, emphasized that government recognizes the sacrifices of teachers, especially in rural communities, and is committed to ensuring promotions reflect in their pay without long delays.
Howedey.com understands that the Ministry of Education will hold a crunch meeting with teacher unions this week in Accra to address salary grade placement and other conditions of service. The Vice President reiterated that the 2026 Ghana Teacher Prize is not just about awards but about listening to teachers and fixing systemic challenges affecting morale in classrooms across Ghana.
