Mahama Dissolves Nine Boards Including GNPC and CBG

President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved with immediate effect the governing boards of nine pivotal state institutions, triggering a sweeping governance reset across strategic sectors of the economy. The directive, executed without stated cause, signals a deliberate recalibration of oversight architecture within the public enterprise portfolio.

The affected entities span petroleum, mining, banking, infrastructure, postal services, housing and sports administration. Management teams have been instructed to maintain operational continuity under ministerial supervision while being barred from undertaking major policy, financial or contractual commitments without prior authorization from the appropriate authority.

The institutions impacted are Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited, Volta Aluminium Company Limited, Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited, Ghana Post Company Limited, the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, TDC Ghana Limited, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and the National Sports Authority. The Presidency indicated that outgoing members will be formally notified in accordance with governing instruments.

According to #Presidency Communications, the dissolution was communicated via official correspondence from the Office of the President dated September second, with relevant sector ministers directed to enforce compliance with applicable legal frameworks. The statement emphasized that reconstitution will occur in due course and expressed appreciation to departing members for their service.

The intervention follows heightened scrutiny of state-owned enterprise performance following the State Interest and Governance Authority assessment, and mirrors earlier transitional directives that vacated boards appointed under the previous administration. Analysts contend that periodic board renewal is instrumental in aligning corporate governance with fiscal discipline and developmental imperatives.

Stakeholder attention now centers on the composition and competence profile of successor boards, whose mandate will be to restore stakeholder confidence and elevate operational efficiency across these critical national assets.
