Dumelo Assures Tomato farmers of Government support
Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. John Dumelo, has assured tomato farmers in Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the government’s commitment to supporting this year’s dry season tomato farming and facilitating the marketing of their produce after harvest. “Yesterday, I drove from Accra to Zebilla in the Bawku West District to interact with tomato farmers who are getting ready for this years dry season tomato farming” He stated.
The assurance was given during a visit to Zebilla, where the Deputy Minister interacted with tomato farmers who are preparing for the 2026 dry season farming season. The engagement provided an opportunity for him to hear directly from the farmers as they gear up for production.
John Dumelo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector by supporting farmers to enhance production and improve outcomes from the upcoming farming season. He emphasised that the government recognises the importance of dry season farming in boosting local food production and sustaining livelihoods.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister also met with representatives of FarmMate Africa, an organisation committed to advancing agriculture and supporting farmers. He commended their dedication to the sector and highlighted the importance of collaboration between government and agricultural stakeholders in promoting sustainable farming. “I met up with folks from FarmMate Africa who are also fully commited to this course. I assured the farmers of government’s support for this year’s dry season farming and also marketing of their produce after harvest”
He assured the farmers that the government would continue to provide the necessary support for this year’s dry season farming while also working to facilitate the marketing of their produce after harvest to help ensure they benefit from their hard work.
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to engage farming communities and encourage increased agricultural production as the country continues to prioritise food security and agricultural development.
