NDC Marks 34 Years of Political Legacy

The National Democratic Congress unfurled its banner at the party’s Adabraka headquarters in a solemn yet spirited flag-raising ceremony commemorating its founding anniversary, rekindling ideological fervour among cadres and sympathisers gathered for the milestone.

The event symbolised continuity of the party’s social democratic ethos and its enduring covenant with the Ghanaian electorate since its inception. National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah presided over the ritual, emphasising unity, grassroots mobilisation, and fidelity to the founding principles of probity, accountability, and social justice.

According to General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the anniversary serves as both retrospection and recommitment, challenging members to eschew factionalism and reposition the organisation as a formidable vehicle for equitable development. He extolled the sacrifices of pioneers who shepherded the party through epochal transitions in Ghana’s democratic evolution.

Founded at the dawn of the Fourth Republic, the NDC has alternated power with its principal rival, shaping policy architecture in health, education, and infrastructure across successive administrations. According to political historian Dr. Akua Asantewaa, the party’s longevity reflects its adaptive capacity and mass-movement character, though it now confronts generational renewal and shifting voter alignments in an increasingly sophisticated electoral marketplace.

According to party elders present, the ceremony concluded with a pledge to intensify community engagement and policy advocacy ahead of impending electoral contests, positioning the anniversary not as mere pageantry but as a strategic inflection point for organisational revitalisation.
