Ghana and Lebanon have taken a significant step towards strengthening their bilateral cooperation in combating transnational crimes. According to the Ministry of the Interior, Senior Lebanese Security Officials visited Ghana to discuss joint efforts in addressing cyber fraud, drug trafficking, money laundering, and related threats.

The Lebanese delegation, led by H.E. Ali Samih Jaafar, Consul General of Ghana in Lebanon, and Brigadier General Morshed El Hajj Sleiman, Deputy Director of State Security in Lebanon, met with Ghana’s Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak. The Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “Collaboration is not just useful, it is essential. We will do everything possible to foster cooperation that keeps our nations safe from these emerging threats”.

The visit highlights Ghana’s commitment to tackling transnational crimes, particularly drug trafficking, which has been a growing concern. Ghana’s strong stance against drug trafficking is evident in its ongoing efforts to bolster defenses against narcotics and related financial crimes.

Brigadier General Morshed El Hajj Sleiman reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to sustaining this partnership, assuring that Ghanaians living in Lebanon remain safe. The two nations are expected to establish a coordinating system to enhance their security cooperation.

The meeting underscores the need for international cooperation in addressing global security threats. As Ghana’s Interior Minister noted, “We cannot continue to allow whole populations to be held to ransom” by transnational crimes.
