EOCO Nabs Former GIHOC Boss Over Financial Irregularities

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has arrested Maxwell Kofi Jumah, former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial impropriety. According to #UTVGhana, Jumah was picked up on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, following a raid on his private residence in Kumasi last week.

The arrest is reportedly linked to allegations of unauthorised sale of company properties, manipulation of staff figures, and questionable vehicle acquisitions. Investigators are also examining claims of inflated staff numbers, which allegedly placed an undue financial burden on the company.

Jumah, who previously served as the Mayor of Kumasi, is being held in EOCO custody, with investigations ongoing. The former GIHOC boss is accused of selling company properties in Tema valued at over $700,000 without necessary approvals.

The case has sparked intense scrutiny, with many calling for accountability and transparency in the management of state resources. The EOCO raid on Jumah’s residence follows similar operations in the past, highlighting the agency’s commitment to tackling corruption.

The investigation is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Jumah’s tenure at GIHOC Distilleries, with potential implications for the wider business community.
