Eight Arab and Islamic countries have condemned Israel’s continued closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, citing it as a flagrant violation of international law and the historical status quo. The countries, including Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Turkiye, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates, have expressed their absolute rejection and condemnation of the measure.
According to #CitiNewsroom, the foreign ministers of these countries stated that Israel’s actions are a provocative move that undermines the rights of Muslim worshippers. They called on Israel to immediately cease the closure and remove access restrictions to the Old City of Jerusalem.
The ministers emphasized that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites. They also called on the international community to adopt a firm position to compel Israel to halt its ongoing violations and illegal practices against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
The closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque has been ongoing for 12 consecutive days, with Israeli authorities citing security concerns linked to the US-Israeli war on Iran. However, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denounced the closure as a blatant violation of Palestinian rights.
The international community has been urged to take action to address the situation and ensure the protection of holy sites. The Jerusalem Islamic Waqf, affiliated with Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf, remains the sole authority responsible for administering the mosque’s affairs.
