Statue Unveiled in Honor of Jerry John Rawlings in Keta-Dzelukope

A life-size statue of the late Ghanaian leader, Jerry John Rawlings, has been unveiled in his hometown of Keta-Dzelukope in the Volta Region. The ceremony, held at the Keta Parks and Gardens, was a celebration of Rawlings’ enduring legacy and his contributions to Ghana’s development.
According to reports, the statue portrays Rawlings in a commanding stance, symbolizing his influential role in shaping Ghana’s political landscape. The monument is intended to serve as a historical landmark and a space for reflection on Ghana’s political journey.
Rawlings, who led Ghana for 19 years, is remembered for his bold leadership style and advocacy for social justice. He played a significant role in Ghana’s transition to democracy and was instrumental in promoting economic recovery and national pride.
The unveiling ceremony drew a large gathering of residents, traditional leaders, party faithful, and admirers of the late statesman. Speakers at the event paid tribute to Rawlings’ contributions to democratic governance, accountability in public office, and his dedication to improving the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.
The statue’s unveiling is a testament to Rawlings’ lasting impact on Ghana and the world. Earlier this year, Burkina Faso named a major street in its capital, Ouagadougou, after him, recognizing his role as a fighter for African emancipation.
The ceremony was marked by colorful cultural performances and a wreath-laying in Rawlings’ honor, lending both celebration and solemn reflection to the occasion.
