Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodriguez has strongly rejected US plans to control her country’s oil wealth, insisting that any partnerships must benefit Venezuelans. Speaking on state television, Rodriguez emphasized that “no foreign power” is governing Venezuela, despite US President Donald Trump’s claims that Washington is now “in charge” of the country.
According to reports, Trump announced that Rodriguez would turn over 30 to 50 million barrels of high-quality oil to the US, with the proceeds to be controlled by him. However, Rodriguez maintained that Venezuela’s government is in charge and will not be dictated to by foreign powers.
The US leader’s comments have sparked tensions, with Rodriguez warning that her country will not be swayed by threats or coercion. She has offered to work with the US, but only on the condition that agreements benefit Venezuela’s people.
Trump has warned that Rodriguez will face consequences if she doesn’t comply with Washington’s demands. Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has also expressed skepticism about Rodriguez’s intentions, labeling her a key architect of torture and corruption ¹ ².
The situation remains volatile, with reports of heavy gunfire and drone activity near Venezuela’s presidential palace. The international community is closely watching developments, with Mexico calling for a fair trial for ousted leader Nicolas Maduro.
