New Court Division to Tackle Galamsey, Corruption Cases

The Chief Justice has inaugurated a Specialised High Courts Division to fast-track and strengthen the handling of critical national cases, including illegal mining (galamsey), state interest matters, narcotic drug offences, cybersecurity crimes, as well as cases arising from Auditor-General’s reports and investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). According to the Ghana News Agency, the new division is expected to enhance the country’s fight against corruption and other national threats.
The Chief Justice emphasized the importance of the new division, stating that it will help to address the backlog of cases and ensure timely justice. The division will be headed by a High Court judge and will operate in Accra, with plans to expand to other regions.
The establishment of the Specialised High Courts Division is seen as a significant step in the government’s efforts to combat galamsey and other forms of corruption. The division will work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure effective prosecution of cases.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has welcomed the establishment of the new division, stating that it will enhance their efforts to investigate and prosecute corruption cases. The OSP has been actively investigating several high-profile cases, including those related to galamsey.
