Trump Issues Ultimatum to Iran as Deadline Looms

In a stark warning, US President Donald Trump has threatened to “take out” Iran in one night if it does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 8:00 PM ET on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. The escalation follows Tehran’s rejection of a 45-day ceasefire, with Iran seeking a permanent end to the conflict with the US and Israel.
Trump labeled Tuesday “Power Plant Day and Bridge Day,” threatening attacks on Iran’s infrastructure, including bridges and energy facilities. According to Bloomberg Business, defense officials warn that strikes could be heavier than Monday’s, the largest since the conflict began, raising fears of further disruption to global energy and regional stability.
The US president’s warning comes after Iran rejected a proposal brokered by Pakistan for an immediate ceasefire and the lifting of its effective blockade of the strait, followed by talks on a broader peace settlement. Iran has expanded its response beyond its territory, striking infrastructure in Gulf countries and threatening to disrupt another key chokepoint, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Iran’s envoy to the UN said Trump’s threat to strike was “direct incitement to terrorism and provides clear evidence of intent to commit war crimes under international law”. The Iranian army’s Khatam Al-Anbiya central command responded, calling Trump “delusional” and saying “crushing operations of the warriors of Islam against the American and Zionist enemies” would continue.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, and its closure has raised concerns about energy security and regional stability. Global oil supply has shrunk by 13%, according to the IMF, which expects to lower its global economic growth projections.
As the deadline approaches, the world waits with bated breath. “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” Trump wrote in a social media post.
