NPP’s DNA is to Lie, Says Roads Minister Agbodza

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of dishonesty, stating that it is inherent in their nature to lie. This statement comes amidst ongoing debates on the country’s road infrastructure development.

Agbodza made this comment while criticizing the NPP’s record on road maintenance, claiming that the party has failed to prioritize the upkeep of existing roads. He cited statistics showing that in 2016, the country maintained 9,000 kilometers of roads, but this figure dropped to 3,000 kilometers in 2023 under NPP governance.

Agbodza’s comments are in response to criticisms from the NPP, particularly from former Roads and Highways Minister Francis Asenso-Boakye, who defended the party’s road infrastructure achievements. Asenso-Boakye dismissed Agbodza’s claims as misleading, stating that the NPP has constructed 13,624 kilometers of roads since 2017.

The Roads Minister also highlighted the NDC’s commitment to completing ongoing projects, unlike the NPP, which he accused of dismissing contractors working on various projects when it assumed office in 2017. Agbodza emphasized that the NDC is focused on maintaining existing roads rather than embarking on new projects.

The feud between Agbodza and the NPP reflects the ongoing political tensions leading up to the elections. The Minister’s comments underscore the NDC’s strategy to highlight what it sees as the NPP’s shortcomings in infrastructure development.
