NPP Founding Member Warns of Backlash Over Prof. Frimpong-Boateng Expulsion

A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has warned of serious consequences if the party proceeds with plans to expel former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng. The warning comes after the NPP initiated proceedings to expel Prof. Frimpong-Boateng over comments he made describing the party as “fake” and alleging electoral malpractices.

According to reports, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng lashed out at the party’s leadership, blaming them for the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections. He accused the leadership of manipulating internal processes for personal gain, citing the alleged rigging of the 2023 presidential primaries in favor of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The NPP has rejected Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s allegations, describing them as “baseless and unsubstantiated”. The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, stated that the party would not tolerate conduct that undermines its unity and integrity.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, was a key figure in the NPP’s government, serving as Minister from 2017 to 2021. He has been vocal about issues affecting the party and the country, including the fight against illegal mining (galamsey).

The controversy has sparked intense debate within the party, with some calling for Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s expulsion, while others warn of potential backlash. The situation remains tense, with the party’s leadership navigating the fallout.
