GTEC Suspends Nursing Programmes Over Accreditation Issues

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has suspended the accreditation of new General Nursing programmes at both diploma and bachelor’s degree levels at all tertiary education institutions. According to Joy News, the decision affects all institutions seeking to offer the programmes, citing concerns about the quality of nursing education.
The suspension is effective immediately, and institutions are required to halt admissions and teaching of the programmes until further notice. GTEC is expected to conduct a thorough review of the nursing programmes to ensure they meet the required standards.
The move has been welcomed by stakeholders in the education sector, who are calling for stricter accreditation processes to ensure quality education. “This decision is a step in the right direction,” said a nursing education expert. “We need to prioritize quality in nursing education to produce competent professionals.”
The suspension affects several institutions that had applied for accreditation to offer the General Nursing programmes. GTEC is expected to announce new guidelines for institutions seeking accreditation in the future.
The decision underscores GTEC’s commitment to ensuring quality education in Ghana’s tertiary institutions. As the commission continues to review the nursing programmes, stakeholders are hopeful that the move will improve the quality of nursing education.
GTEC’s action demonstrates its commitment to upholding quality standards in Ghana’s tertiary education system.
