King-David Norgbey has slammed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for honouring its founder, the late Jerry John Rawlings, with a statue, saying it is hypocritical to do so after neglecting him when he was alive. Norgbey made the statement on Ewenyigba TV’s Morning show with Tony Mark-Boye, describing the NDC’s actions as a “clear case of hypocrisy”.

Norgbey expressed disappointment that the NDC treated Rawlings as a fugitive in his own party, only to turn around and honour him posthumously. He questioned the sincerity of the party’s intentions, pointing out that Rawlings was marginalized and sidelined by the same people who now claim to be honouring his legacy.

The NDC has been accused of neglecting Rawlings’ contributions to the party and the country, with some critics saying that the party has failed to live up to his ideals of probity, transparency, and accountability. Norgbey’s comments come amid growing concerns about the NDC’s commitment to Rawlings’ vision for Ghana.

A life-size statue of Rawlings was unveiled in his hometown of Keta-Dzelukope in the Volta Region, symbolizing his influential role in shaping Ghana’s political landscape. The monument is intended to serve as a historical landmark and a space for reflection on Ghana’s political journey. Rawlings, who led Ghana for 19 years, is remembered for his bold leadership style and advocacy for social justice.

The unveiling ceremony drew a large gathering of residents, traditional leaders, party faithful, and admirers of the late statesman. Speakers at the event paid tribute to Rawlings’ contributions to democratic governance, accountability in public office, and his dedication to improving the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.
