The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has revealed that former President Akufo-Addo had considered him for the position of Finance Minister, but his appointment was blocked. According to Dr. Amoah, the former president had planned to appoint him as the substantive Finance Minister after removing Ken Ofori-Atta, but someone objected, recommending a fellow northerner, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adams, instead.

Dr. Amoah made this disclosure at a campaign stop of NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong in his constituency, touting his credentials and experience. He stated that he has been in politics for about 30 years and is among the top experts in financial and economic modelling globally.

According to Ghanaian news outlet, Graphic Online, Dr. Amoah was appointed as Deputy Finance Minister in April 2024, replacing the late John Kumah. Prior to this, he served as Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.

Dr. Amoah’s claims have sparked interest, with some speculating that he was referring to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He urged NPP delegates to vote for Kennedy Agyapong, stating that he has the party’s interests at heart.

The Nhyiaeso MP has been a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics, serving on the Finance Committee and Privileges Committee.
