Gunmen Attack Ho Central Mosque, 10 Injured

At least 10 people have been injured, with two in critical condition, after armed assailants stormed the Ho Central Mosque in Ghana’s Volta Region on Friday, December 26. The incident occurred around 9:30 am as worshippers were preparing for Juma prayers.

The attackers, numbering about five and wearing masks, opened fire at the mosque, triggering panic and chaos among the congregation. Eyewitnesses described scenes of fear as people scrambled for safety. The motive behind the attack is still unclear, but it’s believed to be linked to a long-standing Imamship dispute within the mosque.

The police have arrested several suspects and deployed the military to Ho to strengthen security and prevent further escalation. Volta Regional Minister Samuel Dorgu visited the injured at the Ho Teaching Hospital, assuring the public of the government’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The attack has sparked concern and outrage, with calls for urgent intervention to resolve the underlying issues. Mohammed Kidzah, a youth leader at the mosque, warned that failure to address the dispute could lead to further violence and instability.

The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to ensure the situation is brought under control.
