*Ken Ofori-Atta Committed to Cooperating with Ghanaian Authorities, Says Lawyer
Ken Ofori-Atta’s international lawyer, Enayat Qasimi, has stated that the former Finance Minister is committed to fully complying with Ghana’s laws and answering for his actions. This comes after Ofori-Atta was declared a fugitive by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for failing to return to Ghana for questioning regarding several high-profile investigations
Qasimi emphasized that Ofori-Atta is not evading justice, but rather, he’s being denied his rights under Ghanaian law. The lawyer added that Ghanaian authorities were aware Ofori-Atta was in the US for medical treatment, making the issuance of a red notice unnecessary
The OSP has accused Ofori-Atta of corruption-related offenses, including questionable contracts with Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority. However, Qasimi claims the charges are “politically motivated”.
Ofori-Atta’s extradition is now in the hands of US judicial authorities, who will determine whether there’s sufficient basis for his return to Ghana. Qasimi assured that Ofori-Atta will cooperate with investigations, stating, “He’s committed to fully complying with the laws of Ghana, and he’s fully committed to answering for anything he did when he was Finance Minister.
The case has sparked intense debate, with some calling for Ofori-Atta’s return to face justice, while others argue he’s being unfairly targeted. As the situation unfolds, one thing is clear: Ken Ofori-Atta’s legal battle is far from over.
