Court Summons Served to Ken Ofori-Atta in US

The Accra High Court has transmitted summons to the United States, requiring former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to answer multiple criminal charges. According to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), the summons were issued as part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities during Ofori-Atta’s tenure at the Ministry of Finance.

The OSP had previously applied for a Red Notice against Ofori-Atta, but it was deleted by INTERPOL’s Commission for the Control of Files, citing that it was “predominantly political in character” and non-compliant with INTERPOL’s rules. The deletion of the Red Notice does not affect the ongoing criminal proceedings against Ofori-Atta in Ghana.

Ofori-Atta was arrested in the US on January 6, 2026, over visa issues and is currently facing extradition proceedings. The OSP has reiterated its commitment to due process and fair prosecution, emphasizing that the removal of the Red Notice does not impact its mandate or investigations.

The case has sparked intense public interest, with many calling for accountability and transparency in governance. The OSP has assured the public that it will continue to pursue the case, guided by law and evidence.

The next steps in the case will involve efforts to secure Ofori-Atta’s appearance in Ghana to face the charges. The outcome of the extradition proceedings in the US will be crucial in determining the trajectory of the case.
