Diallo’s Dig: Arsenal’s Set-Piece Sickness Exposed

Manchester United’s dramatic 3-2 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium was overshadowed by Amad Diallo’s cheeky dig at Mikel Arteta’s tactics. The Ivory Coast international mocked Arsenal’s heavy reliance on set-pieces, suggesting it’s their only hope of scoring.

According to Ghana News Agency, Diallo’s comments came after Arsenal’s struggles in open play were laid bare, with the Gunners failing to score from open play for 270 minutes. The Red Devils capitalized on Arsenal’s weaknesses, with Matheus Cunha scoring a stunning winner in the 87th minute.

Diallo took to social media to slam Arsenal’s tactics, writing “Your only hope is a corner” and “Be humble KID” in response to a fan’s pre-match prediction of an Arsenal win. His comments sparked debate about Arsenal’s lack of threat in open play, with many questioning their dependence on set-pieces.

Arsenal’s set-piece coach, Nicolas Jover, has done an excellent job, but the team’s struggles in open play are a concern. According to BBC, Arsenal have scored 26 goals from set-pieces this season, the highest in Europe’s top five leagues. However, their attackers, including Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyokeres, have struggled to find the back of the net in open play.

The Gunners’ struggles come amid a tough run of fixtures, and Mikel Arteta will be hoping to address these issues soon. Meanwhile, Diallo’s comments have added fuel to the fire, with Arsenal fans calling for more creativity in attack.

Arsenal’s reliance on set-pieces has become a familiar theme, and it’s something they need to address if they want to challenge for the title.
