Parliament Set to Reconvene on February 3

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has announced that the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic will commence on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Parliament House in Accra. This follows the issuance of a Constitutional Instrument by the Speaker, in accordance with Article 112(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

According to the Ghana News Agency, the announcement was made through a statement dated January 19, 2026, signed by Speaker Bagbin. The upcoming session is expected to focus on key legislative agendas, pending bills, approvals, and oversight responsibilities.

The Parliament had adjourned sine die on Friday, December 19, 2025, for the Christmas and New Year holidays. With the resumption of sittings, Members of Parliament will return to legislative business, including debates on national policy, consideration of bills, and the exercise of Parliament’s oversight responsibility over the Executive.

Speaker Bagbin’s announcement formally notifies stakeholders and the public of the start of parliamentary business for the year. The Ninth Parliament, inaugurated in January 2025, continues to play a key role in Ghana’s democratic governance under the Fourth Republic.

The reconvening of Parliament comes amid ongoing discussions on constitutional reforms, with Speaker Bagbin previously stressing the need for a comprehensive review of the 1992 Constitution.
