Managing Director of the Opportunity and Risk Management Institute, Madam Stella Aku Attakpah, has donated 100 mono desks to Abor Evangelical Presbyterian Junior High School in Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region to address furniture deficit and enhance teaching and learning. The desks were handed over on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the school premises after a formal request by the School Management Committee.
The intervention directly targets classroom congestion and inadequate seating that hampers effective pedagogy in many basic schools. With the new mono desks, learners will enjoy improved posture, writing space and concentration during lessons, while teachers will gain better classroom control and instructional flow. The gesture underscores private sector complementarity in closing infrastructure gaps that affect Free SHS feeder schools.
Opportunity and Risk Management Coordinator, Mr. Francis Geytsey, emphasized that the gathering was convened to receive and appreciate the donor so she can be encouraged to do more. He disclosed that ORMI is a non governmental organization but Madam Stella supports schools with her personal resources because she cannot resist giving back to society. According to Mr. Geytsey, the donation will go a long way to impact several school children as well as community members.
The donation forms part of Madam Attakpah continued commitment to quality education and practical skills development, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. She initiated the Opportunity and Risk Management Fair in 2022 with its maiden edition at Abor Senior High School, moved it to St. Paul’s Senior High School in 2024, and adopted a decentralized approach in 2025 taking the programme to various schools across Volta Region. Beyond organizing the STEM fair, she has consistently supported participating schools and students with awards and valuable items to motivate innovation and community problem solving.
In Ghana basic education architecture, the School Management Committee serves as the statutory community interface that identifies urgent needs and mobilizes support, while STEM promotion remains a national priority to bridge skills mismatch and drive industrialization. Furniture availability is a critical determinant of contact hours, retention and BECE performance, and targeted donations like 100 mono desks ease pressure on existing assets and create more conducive learning environments. The initiative provides a platform for learners to showcase creativity and technical abilities, reinforcing the link between infrastructure and academic excellence.
School authorities expressed profound appreciation to Madam Attakpah and ORMI for responding swiftly at a time when additional furniture was critically needed, describing the gesture as timely and transformative. They noted that the partnership will contribute to a better learning environment for both teachers and students and expressed hope that the collaboration will endure. The handing over ceremony brought together SMC members, teachers, students and stakeholders who witnessed the presentation and acknowledged her vision of quality education in the region.
